Dewayne White, a six year football veteran and starting defensive end for the Detroit Lions teamed up with the Children’s Aid Society to help 436 women and children have a memorable Christmas. The holiday giveaway was held at Youthville on Tuesday, December 22, 2009.
A total of 99 families, pre-selected by the Children’s Aid Society (CAS), had a chance to experience what Christmas all about… giving! Each mother received one gift and each child received a toy, clothing item, coat and a pair of boots. “It’s no secret what our country is experiencing at this time. With the recession, we have had a heralded number of requests for help. Dewayne White has stepped up in the wake of tremendous need to help when a time these families need it most,” said Valerie Coleman, Supervisor of the Children’s Aid Society.
Each family enjoyed an evening of cheer and experienced the spirit of Christmas. “With the economy being unstable, I wanted to do my part to assist families by easing the strain from everyday worries. I hope that my giving can encourage more members of the community to see that Christmas is a time to provide for those in need,” said White.
