Children’s Aid Society's Head Start Preschool Development Center is located at 8726 Woodward Avenue, in Detroit’s historic North End neighborhood community. Our hours of care are 7:30 am. to 5:30pm., Monday through Friday. During the fall semester, we offer services to children three to four years of age. In the summer, our program expands to serve children three to ten years of age. Each day the children are provided with nutritious breakfasts, lunches and late afternoon snacks.
Our center uses the High Scope curriculum, where children learn through play. Each child is given an assessment to determine their level of development. The Center also provides a program of daily activities and relationships that offer opportunities for the developmental growth of each child in all of the following areas:
- Physical development, including gross motor skills and fine motor skills (large and small muscle groups).
- Social development, including communications skills.
- Emotional development, including self-concept.
- Intellectual development, which is enhanced through a variety of field trip experiences.
Through the collaboration of CAS and The Order Of The Fisherman Head Start we also have been able to offer services to children with special needs. Along with providing children academic activities we provide training in environmental safety, mental and dental health. The program staff also provides assistance to parents in preparing documentation for determination of services from the Department of Human Services as well as the Head Start program. |
