2011 Walk/Run Recap

9/21/2011

On the morning of Saturday, August 20, Children’s Aid Society (CAS) held its second annual Walk/Run on Belle Isle to raise money for programs preventing youth violence. With events including a 5K walk, a 10K run, and a one-mile family fun run, there was something available for everyone.

Board member Johnnie Hunter was chairperson of the event, which drew around 40 participants. The walkers and runners enjoyed a DJ and a drum circle for entertainment.

When all was said and done, the event raised proceeds of more than $15,000. CAS would like to give special thanks to the associates and friends of the Detroit Chasis Plant, LLC, and Quicken Loans. Each group donated $5,000 to the event.

Other sponsors included VITEC; Lakeshore Engineering Services; the Wayne County Sherriff Office; and Speech Right, Inc. CAS would also like to thank Bill Taylor Studio, the Employees & Staff of the Detroit Chasis Plant, the World of Works Volunteers, and Katrina Dixon.

CAS was very pleased with the turnout and results, and looks forward to holding the event again next year.

Candlelight Vigil

12/10/2009

On December 10, 2009, CAS hosted a candlelight vigil.

Participants in the vigil joined together at the Woodward entrance to Youthville.

Billie Christian, our Executive Director, began the vigil by lighting her candle and sharing her flame with the person next to her. That person shared the flame with the next person, and so on.

The flame symbolizes our unity as a community and our commitment to children, youth and families in Southeastern Michigan and around the world. It also stands for our ongoing commitment to reduce youth violence in Metro Detroit.
