Purposeful Parenting Program (P3)

The Purposeful Parenting Program (P3) is a nine week parenting class, provided to Department of Human Services birth parents who have children in foster care. The class seeks to engage parents in the process of developing and implementing a specific parenting plan (short, medium, long range) to achieve positive outcomes. The goal of the program is to improve parenting skills, to develop a customized parenting “life plan,” and teach parents the appropriate ways to assist and communicate with their children and other family members.

P3 follows a social-work based parent education/family stabilization-training model. The model incorporates the best practices of existing validated parenting programs. It involves parents in developing purposeful, specific, and written planned goals for successful parenting.
